I totally get it. There are just not enough hours in the day. After getting the kids off to school, cleaning, cooking, and managing two businesses…I barely have enough time to take care of myself. I forget to stop and make sure that I’ve eaten lunch or gotten a good night’s sleep. And it’s so easy to do that because you get caught up in completing that “super important” to-do list and self-care tends to move lower and lower on that list.
So Why Do We Often Forget About Self-Care?
Most of us are crazy busy, have stressful jobs, or are too consumed with technology to make time for ourselves. OR we end up feeling a little guilty about taking the time required to take care of ourselves. Sounds familiar?? I am certainly guilty of this! Self-care doesn’t have to be an elaborate trip to the spa or a luxurious vacay. It can be as simple as taking a few moments to meditate before starting the day or disconnecting from social media for a couple of hours a day.
Here are 4 easy self-care practices to add to your daily routine:
- Take the time to nourish your body.
We work hard each and every day, so it’s very important that we take the time to properly nourish our bodies. Allowing yourself to eat a nutritious meal helps to keep us healthy and alert. Since my schedule is usually pretty busy, I like to choose quick and wholesome foods such as FAGE Total 2% Split Cup Greek Yogurt.
FAGE is my go-to for a protein-rich nutritious breakfast or for a yummy, “feel good” snack. This creamy, low-fat Greek yogurt is conveniently packed in the perfect sized container, and it’s already paired with the most perfect toppings. So far, my favorite flavor is the Mixed Berry flavor! I like to pour all of my toppings in at once, and if I’m feeling fancy, I like to turn it into a breakfast bowl!
- Take a self-care break outside.
Working from home definitely has its perks, but I will admit that I don’t always remember to take a moment to enjoy nature. Sure, I go outside to check the mail or run a few errands but I can’t remember the last time I spent a little quiet time outside and allowed myself to take a breather. Taking a break outside is also a great time to engage in some physical activity, like hiking or walking.
- Take time to get organized.
Most people don’t realize this, but organization is such a huge part of self-care. It allows you to prioritize and figure out exactly what you need to do to take better care of yourself. I like to keep a planner available to write down all of my daily responsibilities and appointments. It helps to save time while eliminating unnecessary stress. And it helps if you invest in a super cute planner, such as this one, and a unicorn pen…it just makes life happier! ?
- Get a good night’s sleep.
When those pressing deadlines are drawing near, it’s so easy to compromise a good night’s sleep in an attempt to get everything done, but this can have a huge effect on how you feel both emotionally and physically. Not getting enough sleep can even contribute to additional stress and other distractions that can wreak havoc on our busy lives. Try developing a nightly routine to help you relax before going to bed. This routine can include a warm bath, or a calming cup of lavender tea.
These 4 simple tips have truly made a positive impact in my life. They have allowed me to be a better wife, a better mom, and a better ME. Do you have a favorite self-care tip? If so, let me know in the comments below!
