These DIY Simmer Pot Ornaments are a small reminder that the most meaningful gifts aren’t always the most expensive ones. They’re the ones made with love.

Every year, I tell myself the same thing: This is the year I’m going to create something special for the holidays. Not something stressful. Not something expensive. But something meaningful…something that actually serves a purpose and helps make the season feel a little lighter. And this year, I finally did it!

This holiday season, I committed to being more intentional, more present, less rushed, and less overwhelmed. And because of that, I created my very first 5 Days of Christmas Series, featuring easy, budget-friendly DIY holiday gifts that are thoughtful, beautiful, and made with love.
Yep, that’s right! We’re saving money. We’re stressing less. And we’re giving gifts that actually mean something. And we’re kicking things off with one of my favorite DIY gifts: DIY Simmer Pot Ornaments.
What Are DIY Simmer Pot Ornaments?
DIY simmer pot ornaments are exactly what they sound like: a festive ornament that doubles as ingredients for a holiday simmer pot. Each clear ornament is filled with dried citrus, herbs, and spices that can be added to a pot of water and gently simmered on the stove to make your home smell incredible.

But here’s the best part…before they’re ever used, they look absolutely adorable on the Christmas tree. The dried orange slices, herbs, and spices peek through the clear ornament, creating a rustic, cozy, farmhouse-style Christmas look. They’re simple, elegant, and full of holiday charm, perfect for gifting or decorating.
They’re ideal for:
- Neighbors
- Teachers
- Coworkers
- Hostess gifts
- Stocking stuffers
- Or anyone who appreciates simple, meaningful gifts
And because they’re made with natural ingredients, they feel extra special, like a little reminder to slow down and enjoy the season.

What You’ll Need to Make DIY Simmer Pot Ornaments
Here’s everything I used to create my simmer pot ornaments (all linked for easy shopping, & I may receive a small commission):
- Pack of Dried Herbs
- Dried Orange Slices
- Simmer Pot Filler
- Brown Gift Tags
- Fillable Christmas Ornament Balls
These supplies are affordable, easy to find, and perfect for making multiple ornaments at once, making this a truly budget-friendly DIY Christmas gift.

How to Assemble DIY Simmer Pot Ornaments
Step 1: Open your clear fillable ornament.
Step 2: Add your choice of dried fruit, herbs, and spices. My favorite combo is dried oranges, apples, rosemary, cinnamon, cardamon, and star anise.
Step 3: Gently layer the ingredients so they’re visible and balanced.
Step 4: Close the ornament securely and tie a piece of ribbon or twine to make the “hook” for the ornament.
Step 5: For a festive touch, attach a ribbon or tie on a brown gift tag with simple instructions:
“Add contents to a pot of water and simmer for a cozy holiday scent.”
And that’s it! You can hang them directly on the Christmas tree, place them in gift baskets, or wrap them in simple kraft paper for an extra thoughtful touch.

How These Ornaments Look on the Christmas Tree
Honestly? They’re one of my favorite decorations this year. The natural colors of the dried oranges and herbs pop beautifully against green branches, and the clear ornaments give them an elevated, minimalist feel. They blend perfectly with traditional décor, rustic themes, farmhouse Christmas trees, and even modern holiday styles.
