What Are Brussels Sprouts?

Brussels sprouts are small green vegetables that belong to the cruciferous vegetable family, alongside broccoli, kale, cauliflower, and cabbage. They grow in little round buds along a thick stalk and are packed with nutrients like fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and antioxidants.

When cooked properly, Brussels sprouts become tender and slightly nutty with crispy, caramelized edges. And despite their bad reputation from years ago (looking at those boiled Brussels sprouts 👀), roasted Brussels sprouts are completely different and absolutely delicious.

What is the Secret for Restaurant-Style Roasted Brussels Sprouts?

The secret to restaurant-style Brussels sprouts is all about high heat, proper seasoning, and caramelization.

Here are a few tips that make all the difference:

1. Roast at a High Temperature

Roasting Brussels sprouts at 425℉ helps create those crispy golden brown edges that make them irresistible.

2. Use a Hot Pan

Placing the sheet pan in the oven while it preheats helps the Brussels sprouts start crisping immediately when they hit the pan.

3. Don’t Overcrowd the Pan

Giving the sprouts space allows them to roast instead of steam.

4. Balance Flavors

The sweet strawberry preserves, tangy lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, and savory seasonings create the perfect balance of sweet, bright, and savory flavors.

5. Roast Cut Side Down

This helps develop that beautiful caramelized crust on the flat side of the Brussels sprouts.
